Japan, here we come! パスカル日本上陸！

Something very exciting has happend while I was taking a break from this blog. We will be in a Japanese magazine called "Zakka Catalogue" this Autumn!! There you can see and read how we live our life here with our creative minds. Naomi, the photographer and Miho, the graphic designer came all the way from Japan this May. We had loads of fun together shooting. Yasue the editor and Masami, the coordinater also have worked hard behind the scene. Please find me in the December issue of "Zakka Catalogue" on sale at the end of October.
このブログをしばらくお休みしている間に、とてもエキサイティングな事が起こったんです！なんと、「雑貨カタログ」の雑誌に、私達の暮らしが紹介されることになりました。写真家の和田直美さん、グラフィックデザイナーの阪戸美穂さんが、５月にはるばる日本から取材に来ました。その楽しい取材を、編集の野沢泰恵さんと友人のマサミが上手にまとめてくれて、１０月末発売の１２月号に載ります！皆さん、見てくださいね。

House make-over 5

This is our sitting area. A stove in the center of the house with bucketful of firewood, on the far end there is a sofa, facing the bookshelf which my father made a long time ago. Next to the stove there is a table where I keep my diary on ideas and events. We do have a small TV, but do not receive channels. That is used to play DVD's and Video's for rainy days.
これが、我が家の居間です。家の中心にはストーブがあり、その隣にはバケツいっぱいの薪。奥の壁に面してソファーが置かれ、正面に本棚（私の亡き父が昔作ったものです）。ストーブの隣のテーブルには私の日記帳。アイデアや出来事をつづります。アンテナを引いていない我が家のテレビは、雨の日にDVDやビデオを見るのに活躍してくれます。

House make-over 4

For the birthroom, we had create a new room. We made walls with cemet bricks for a shower area and toilet area, tiled the walls, laid water pipes, fixed a toilet, basin and shower. We are satisfied with the result, won't you too? The colour code here is black and white. Nice clean look.
バスルームには、新しい部屋を作りことになりました。セメントブリックで壁を作り、シャワー部分とトイレ部分に分け、タイルを貼り、水道管を引き、トイレ、洗面、シャワーを設置。完成は上の写真の通り。なかなかでしょう？白と黒で統一して、清潔な感じを出しています。

House make-over 3

This is my bed. Since the space is really limited in my house, I improvised it! On top of the former sauna room (now it is a closet), I made this space for myself. I gave the ceiling this warm red colour. It is snug and cozy. Over the pillow I hang my kids photo and little christmas lights to make it really cheerful.
これが、私のベットです。家の中のスペースに制限があるため、考え出しました。昔のサウナルーム（現在はクローゼット）の上に、私の空間を。天井を赤にして、暖かい居心地の良いスペースです。枕元には、子供の写真とクリスマスライト。時々寝ぼけて頭を打つこともありますけどね。

House make-over 2

And this is how the kids' beds look like now. We put pannels around their bunk bed and painted white of course. Then I made curtains and my brother made shelves on the wall. I gave them each starry skiy to look up when they go to sleep. It works as their private rooms when they draw the curtains. Sara and Koen love it.
そして、これが現在の子供達のベットです。２段ベットの周りにパネルを施し、内側には棚、外にはカーテンをつけました。見上げればパッチワークの星空。カーテンを引けば、プライベートな子供部屋に早代わり。棚にお気に入りを並べて、サラもクンもとても気に入ってます。

House make-over story 1

I would like to show you before and after of the house make-over. The bottom is shortly after we moved into our house, the ex-sauna shed in the back garden. It was two years ago. My brothers and I put our heads together to create what I had in my mind. All my family members are, I should proudly say, very creative and handy too. We can build a house by ourselves if we want to. In the bottom photo, the floor had been laid and the wall been painted, and we were living there already as you can see. A few months later it looked like the photo above. Our favorite corner in the house.
私の家の、リフォーム前とリフォーム後の写真を紹介しますね。下の写真は、２年前母の家の裏庭の、元サウナ小屋に引越して間もないころの写真です。私の夢のうち実現の為、弟二人とともに改造計画を練っていた頃。自慢のようですが、私の家族は皆器用でクリエイティブ。みんなが揃えば家を１軒建てる事だって可能です。下の写真では、もう既に床が敷かれ、壁は塗られ、もう実際に住み始めていたころでした。数ヵ月後の完成写真が上。白を貴重にやわらかく。子供と私の大好きなコーナーです。

Sara, the Fluffy Dog

Carnival is comming soon. This year Sara decided she wants to be a dog. We made a sketch together and went to the market to buy materials. We found this fluffy looking material, that would make just sort of a dog Sara wants to be. Fluffy and Cuddly one! I am already busy making it while Sara gives me instruction. Watch this space for the result soon!
もうすぐカーニバルがやってきます。今年のサラは、犬に決定。一緒にデザインを考え、マーケットに行って布を探してきました。このふわふわの布、サラのなりたい、毛むくじゃらの抱きしめたいような犬にぴったり。 早速、サラの監督の下制作中です。出来上がりをお楽しみに。

New Year's decoration

These are our lucky birds in the cage. I made this New Year's decoration with my kids. I found an old rusty cage in the shed and in there housed a birght coloured birds which Sara, Koen and I made. We had so much fun making them with colourful feathers and glittering glass diamonds. These birds would bring us lots of luck this year. Over the cage again the mirror I hung christmas tree's glass ornaments wiht white lights. It makes me very happy just looking at them.
かごの中の幸せの小鳥達。新年のお祝いに子供達と作りました。家の小屋に眠っていた、古く錆びた鳥かごに、サラとクンと私が作った色とりどりの鳥達。綺麗な羽にピカピカのガラスのダイアモンドで出来た小鳥達、我が家に幸せをたくさん運んできて下さいね。鳥かごの上の鏡には、クリスマスツリー用のガラスの飾りを、ライトとともに飾りました。見てるだけで幸せな気持ちにしてくれる、私のうちの一角です。

Sara's horse

Sara's wish came true; for Christmas she was given a horse! That the horse is made of wood makes no difference for her. Her uncle Herm made it for her as a Christmas gift. She is taking good care of the horse, she rides it, feeds it and covers it with a blanket when it's time to go to sleep. We keep on dreaming about having a real horse, maybe a little one but for now we enjoy the horses in the neighbourhood and of course our own wooden one.
今年のクリスマス、サラの願い事が叶いました。念願の馬を手に入れたのです！Hermおじさん（私の弟）が作ってくれた、木馬。サラにとっては、木馬も馬であることには変わりありません。餌をやったり、乗り回したり、お休み前には毛布をかけてやったり、かいがいしく世話をしています。今は近所の農家の馬やこの木馬を楽しみながら、いつか本物の馬が飼えることを家族で夢見ています。

Sara on a horse

Sara started her horse riding lesson recently. Just like me she is crazy about hourses. I made her a bag with a golden horse stencil and she loves it. Sara is learing attentively. I dream the day when I go riding in the woods side by side with her.
サラが乗馬のレッスンに通い始めました。私に似て、馬が大好きなサラ。早速金色の馬をプリントしたカバンを作ってあげました。レッスンを受けるサラは、とても真面目です。サラと一緒に、森の中を馬に乗って出かける日が早く来ることを、夢見る私です。

Winter Miracle

I love walking in the woods when freezing! All those leaf-less branches get a make-over with the christal frost and everywhere I see is just WHITE! Rouxby enjoyed his first frost day. He was a bit puzzled when he saw the thin ice on a pond, licking away the ice.
凍りついた森の中を歩くのが大好き。枯れ木は、クリスタルのような氷でおおわれ、お化粧したみたい。どこを見ても真っ白！ルビーははじめての冬の森に大喜び。薄く氷のはった池では、不思議な顔をして、氷をひたすらなめていました。

Scarecrow Contest

There was the annual “Scarecrow Contest” in our town again. And of course we participated. This year Koen and Sara helped with creating it, using corncobs for ribs and bright red leaves for the fur around the neck. I won the first prize two years ago. This year we did not win a prize this year but it was real fun.
毎年恒例の「案山子コンテスト」が町で行われました。クンとサラも手伝って、もちろん今年も参加。とうもろこしのあばら骨に、華やかな赤い葉っぱの首飾り。一昨年は一番の賞をもらいました。今年は残念ながら賞はなかったけど、楽しかった！

A Happy 2008!

A Happy New Year to you! We had a few freezing days before Christmas. And this is how the nature played a miracle on a spider web. Amazing, isn't it?
明けましておめでとうございます。クリスマスの少し前に零下が続いていたオランダで、自然が見せてくれた素敵な魔法です。氷のスパイダーウェブ！素敵でしょう？

Pancake Dutch style

Hi, Masami here. We made pancakes with kids at Pascale. Kids love to help, especially for their favourite dish. Dutch pancakes are somewhat thinner, somewhere between American Pancake and French crepe, and you can top it with almost anything. My personal favourite is this bacon with syrup! Mmm yammy!
マサミです。パスカル家でパンケーキを作りました。子供達は大好物メニューに我先とお手伝い。オランダのパンケーキは、アメリカン・パンケーキとフレンチ・クレープの中間のような薄さで、ありとあらゆるものをトッピングしていただきます。私のお気に入りは、このベーコンにシロップのトッピング！お試しあれ！

Rouxby and carrot

Our Rouxby is already 6 months and getting bigger everyday. He's very sweet but his naughty nature has not change a bit. Things happen always just when I see him lying on the sofa looking like a little prince before turning my back to him. Koen and Sara recently put their shoes in front of the stove with a carrot in it, hoping that Sinterklaas would bring them a present that night. Rouxby didn't leave the carrot for the horse, as you can imagine, but chewed it into tiny bits only to decide that he didn't like carrots after all...He loves the Sinterklaas sweets "pepernoten" in stead.
ルビーはもう６ヶ月になり、日に日に大きく成長しています。そして、彼のキュートさとイタズラぶりには益々拍車がかかります。事件はいつも、まるで王子様のようにソファーの上に寝そべるルビーを確認した直後に、起こるのです。クンとサラは先日、その晩プレゼントを持って来てくれるであろうシンタークラースと白馬の為に靴に人参を入れました。ルビーはしめたとばかりに人参をしっけいし、こなごなに噛み砕き、結局人参は彼のお口に合わないことを発見したのでした・・・・・・。やっぱりシンタークラースのお菓子”ペーパーノーテン”のほうがおいしいものね、ルビー。

Sara's design

Sara designed her own bag too. After seeing me busy all the time making bags, she was inspired. So she made a design on paper and choose her favorite pieces of cloth out of the "leftovers". She decided how they had to be sewed on the bag and added beads and little drawings with textile-paint. Sara knows very well what she likes and has her own style. I am very happy that she has the same interest for textile and making things as I do. We love visiting the cloth-market looking for new cloths and imagine what to make of it; a skirt, a dress, a bag, a pillowcover, new curtains. We have a lot of things waiting to become someting beautiful for our new home...
私に負けず、サラもバッグのデザインを。私がいつもバッグを作っているのを見て、影響を受けたようです。紙にデザインを描いて、余り布から好きな物を選んで。どこに何がどうやって付くのか決めたのもサラ。ビーズを付け、布用ペイントで絵も描きました。サラは好きなものに対してクリアなアイデアを持ち、自分のスタイルも持っています。布地やデザイン、創作において、サラと趣味を共有できるのが本当に嬉しいです。一緒に布市場に行って、新しい布を見つけてきて、何にしようか考えるのが大好き。スカート、ドレス、バッグ、クッション、カーテン・・・・・？？そうやって見つけたたくさんの布地が、素敵なものに生まれ変わるのを、じっと待っています。

Koen's Monsters

Koen has his own Monster world, he creates fantastic imaginary monsters and draws them. Sometimes he askes me te realize one for him. One of them is Crookie. I asked him to make a design with colours and so he did. Crookie is made out of pieces of leftover cloths. He watches over Koen together with Monsterkies, another of his monster friends. Monsterkies has a brother who looks after Sara: Monsterpluis. With all these kind-hearted Monsters guarding us, I feel very safe in my house.
モンスターワールドに住むクン。常に独創的なモンスター達をクリエイトし、絵に描いています。そして、時折それらの中から選り抜きのモンスターを作ってくれと、私にせがみます。その一つが「クルーキー」。彼の色指定のもと、家にあった余り布をつなぎ合わせて出来上がったのが上の写真。モンスター仲間の「モンスターキース」とともに、クンを見守るのが彼のお仕事。「モンスターキース」の兄弟「モンスタープラウス」はサラを見守ります。 こんな優しいモンスター達に見守られ、本当に私の家は怖いもの無し。

Sinterklaas

It's the Sinterklaas time in the Netherlands. Kids are really excited making their wish list and anticipating what they will get.
This generous old man comes on a steam boat from Spain every year in the middle of November, together with his white horse and the loads of his helpers, the black peters. Kids can now fill their shoe with carrots or straws (for the horse) with a nice drawing (for the Sinterklaas), and expect the Sinterklaas to come to their house at night, riding on his white horse on the rooftop, to leave a small present and some sweets in their shoe in stead. On the night before his birthday, 6 December, he gives every child in the Nederlands presents before he returns to Spain. A very special somebody and event in the Netherlands. Some say that he is a brother of Father Christmas........what do you think??
オランダは今、シンタークラース一色です。子供達は欲しい物のリストを書きながら、何がもらえるかドキドキワクワク。
この気前の良い白いおひげのおじいちゃんは、毎年１１月半ばになると、白馬とお手伝いのブラックピーター達を連れて、スペインから汽船に乗ってやって来ます。子供たちは、夜になると自分の靴に馬のための人参や藁、シンタークラースの為には似顔絵を入れて寝ます。そうすると、白馬にまたがったシンタークラースが屋根の上を颯爽と渡り歩き、子供達の靴に小さなプレゼントとお菓子を入れてくれるのです。そして、彼の誕生日１２月６日の前夜、オランダ中の子供達にプレゼントを渡し、汽船でスペインに帰っていくのです。オランダでは欠かせない人物。サンタクロースの兄弟だとかいううわさもありますが、真相はどうなのでしょうか？？

White Winter Bag

This bag is made out of a piece of cloth a friend gave me and a piece of sheepfur. The model is quite simple. I embroidered beeds on the front and added a small bone for a button. This is a bag you want to cuddle in the cold winter.
友人からもらった布と羊の毛皮を合わせて作ったシンプルなモデル。赤のビーズを刺繍し、鹿の骨をボタンにつけました。凍りつく冬に抱きしめたくなる暖かいバッグです。

Rouxby

Our cute puppy Rouxby. Rouxby is born on 14 May 2007. He came to us when he was 8 weeks old. He is a jumpy mischievous and most lovable little creature. He sometimes feels sorry for himself when told off.... just like in this photo.
この夏新しく家族に加わったルビー。今年５月１４日生まれのルビーは、生後８週間で家にやってきました。イタズラ好きでちっともじっとしていないけど、本当にキュートな我が家の一員。反省ポーズ可愛いでしょ。

Around fire

In winter time we gather around the stove and play games and read a lot. In summer time we are always outside, working in the garden and playing in the yard. We have our own vegetable garden where we grow herbs and vegetables. My mum has loads of recipes to conserve the harvests, like making jams and elder-berry syrup and so on. It is about time she teaches me that too.

冬には、ストーブの周りに集まって、ゲームをしたり、本を読んだり。夏は、いつも外で過ごします。庭仕事をしたり、裏庭で遊んだり。ハーブや野菜を作っている菜園もあります。母は保存食作りのレシピを豊富に持っていて、ジャムを作ったり、エルダーベリー（ニワトコの果実）シロップを作ったりしてくれます。そろそろ私にも伝授してくれる頃ではと期待しているのですが。

Long live white

A lot of the furniture in my house is second hand. I painted them white of course. Colors and warmth is given by a lot of fabrics around the house, like cushions, carpets, blankets and curtains. Advantage is that it is easy to change the atmosphere by merely using different blankets or pillow cases. This has become really our home and it says who we are and how we live.

私の家の多くの家具は、セカンドハンド品。もちろんすべて白に塗り替えます。色どりと暖かさは、クッション、カーペット、ブランケット、カーテンなどの布の小物達が演出してくれます。キャンバスを白にしておくと、ブランケットや枕カバーなどの小物達を取り変えることによって、簡単に家のイメージを一変する事が可能なのです。この家は、本当に私たちの“ホーム”。私たちが誰であるのか、どういう生き方をしているのか、家が教えてくれます。

Welcome to Pascale's house

Welcome to Pascale's house. This table is the centre of the house serving as dining table, work table and place to pile things up! My creation starts right here. Most of the funiture in my house are from the village recycle shop "het Goed". I like to find old things with potential and make them reborn again in my style.
パスカルの家へようこそ。このテーブルが 私のうちの中心。食卓になったり、仕事場になったり、物が積み上げられたり、私の手作りもここから始まります。家の殆どの家具は地元のリサイクルショッ プ”Het Goed"で購入。古いものに可能性を見出し、私流に生まれ変わらせるのが私のスタイル。

Story of my house

My house is very precious to me. I live in the farm of my mum. Behind the farm house there is a wooden cottage which used to be a sauna house. At the time of my moving in with kids, it was old and neglected. My brother Herm made a complete house of it with everything we could wish for. He is really handy there. I did the decoration myself, with mum as my adviser always to lean back on. I painted everything white for I love the color white. It gives light and cleanness and happy feeling.

私の家は、私にとってとても大切な場所。現在、母の所有する田舎の農家の敷地内に住んでいます。農家の母屋の裏に、昔サウナ室として使われていた、古く忘れ去られていた木造の小屋があって、私が子供と共に引っ越して来た時は、ガラクタ置き場になっていました。弟のヘルムが、この小屋を私たちの願い通りの素晴らしい家に改造してくれました。彼は本当に何だって出来るんです。内装・装飾は、もちろん母のアドバイスを受けながら私が担当。すべてを私の大好きな白に塗りかえました。「白」は光を与え、清潔感と、幸福な感じをもたらしてくれます。

Flying a kite

A beautiful breezy day. An excellent day to fly kites. Higher, higher Mama, says Sara jumping up and down. A good pair of my wooden shoes are perfect in our back garden.
風の強い晴れた日、たこ揚げ日和。広い裏庭で子供と挑戦。「もっともっと高く、ママー。」とサラもはしゃいでます。はきやすい木靴は私のお気に入り。
